How Often Should Your Business Schedule Janitorial Service?

A practical guide to choosing the right janitorial frequency for your office, medical practice, retail store, or industrial facility.

5 min read

The right janitorial frequency depends on three things: how many people are in the building, what they're doing in it, and how visible the space is to customers and visitors.

Professional offices with 10 to 100 employees typically benefit from janitorial service three to five nights per week. Smaller offices can often be maintained with two to three visits weekly. Larger or customer-facing offices usually require nightly service, sometimes with a day porter for restrooms and common areas.

Medical, dental, and outpatient facilities almost always require nightly cleaning. The combination of patient flow, infection-control requirements, and the visibility of the waiting room makes anything less than nightly service difficult to defend.

Retail stores typically need nightly cleaning during operating days, scheduled either overnight or before opening. Shopping centers and multi-tenant retail often combine nightly tenant cleaning with daytime common-area porter coverage.

Industrial and warehouse facilities are highly variable. Office and break room areas usually require nightly cleaning; production and warehouse floors run on a scrubbing cadence scoped to traffic, often weekly to nightly for ride-on scrubbing.

Houses of worship typically schedule cleaning twice a week — early in the week (after Sunday) and again before the weekend, with extra visits booked around weddings, funerals, and special events.

When in doubt, start with what your most visible space demands. If your restroom can't survive three days without a cleaning, your whole program should be at least every other day. OA Property Cleaning will help you scope the right frequency during a free on-site walkthrough.
